2023 GREATER ACCRA REGIONAL FARMERS’ DAY OBSERVED

The Greater Accra Regional Minster, Hon. Henry Quartey has underscored the need for innovative and sustainable approaches in the agriculture sector aimed at industrialization, adding value to produce, fostering job creation and ensuring food security in Ghana. 

Speaking at the 39th celebration of Farmers’ Day Greater Accra edition, he noted that in a world marked by rapid changes, climate uncertainties and evolving technologies, it is imperative that we welcome smart solutions to address the complex issues confronting food production and distribution in Ghana.

Hon. Quartey reaffirmed the major role Agriculture plays in our economy adding that it sustains a substantial portion of Ghana’s population hence, the adoption of cutting-edge technologies and the implementation of sustainable farming practices were pivotal to achieving desired results.

The ceremony awarded nine (9) distinguished individuals and institution for their massive contribution towards farming in the region. At the end of it all, a 65-year-old Evans Drah from the Ada East District emerged as the overall best farmer for the Greater Accra Region.

Others included, Isaac Teye Gatianu of Isaac Farms in the Ningo-Prampram district as the best physically challenge farmer, Ms Charity Adupong of Meanean Foods won the best food processing award while
Madam Emelia Amartey from the Ada West district won the best female regional farmer.

St Mary’s Senior High School was adjudged the best second cycle institution into agriculture, Madam Abigail Kuor a fish monger and processor won the best regional fisher, Mr. Joe Reindorf, best regional livestock farmer, Emmanuel Amartey won the regional best Agric extension officer (Agric)  and M rs Rosina Williams won the regional best Agric extension officer (fishing).

The Greater Accra Regional Minister, Hon. Henry Quartey described the occasion as a testament of the hard work, dedication and commitment of farmers to ensuring food security and building resilience in the face of confronting challenges and accordingly thanked them for their efforts.

The Greater Accra Regional Farmer expressed his appreciation to all especially the Agric extension officers for their guidance and expert advice in making it possible for him to win the award. He promised to put in more efforts to ensure that he produces more for both the local and international markets.
