Adolescent Protection

The Department of Community Development embarked on Child Protection engagement on the above subject matter at the Ogbojo Presby school in the Adentan municipality.  This was sort to increase awareness creation on Adolescent protection and its related issues amongst students and how to mitigate the dangers associated with it. The students were taken through the stages of Adolescence which includes the Physical Cognitive, socio-psychological, emotional, sexual just to mention but a few and what happens during those stages. UNICEF Child protection flash cards on adolescent protection issues were used during the facilitation which made the engagement lively. In a response to a question from a student about what to do in instances where their parents fail to address their concerns with regards to the above issues, learners were advised to report to their teachers or better still report to the Social Welfare and Community Development Officers. In addition, they were advised to be careful with the opposite sex, report issues of sexual harassment, take their studies seriously etc. At the end of the engagement both students and teachers were excited about the program and students pledged to abide by all the tips given them to help them become responsible adults in future. The headmistress was impressed and asked that the unit visits periodically. The Assemblyman for the electoral area was also present to add his voice.
