In a related development, scores of New Patriotic Party (NPP) faithful in the Ayawaso West Municipality were last Thursday left disappointed when the Assembly members failed to approve the Presidents nominee, Mrs. Sandra Owusu Ahenkorah, as the Municipal Chief Executive.
She polled one yes vote, four against and one rejected vote representing 16.74 per cent.
The process was witnessed by the party executives and supporters, the Member of Parliament for the area, Mr. Emmanuel Agyarko, the Greater Accra Minister, as well as well wishers and family members.
Mr. Ashitey was left disappointed after the Coordinating Director, Alhaji Haruna Abdul Salam had assured him and his entourage that he had good working relation with the assembly members and trusted that they would do the President and themselves the favour and honour to kick start the development of the area.
He said though each one of them was qualified to hold such a position, the President thought otherwise and charged them not to disappoint the President.
But the six assembly members had other plans. During the voting process, only one voted for the nominee, whiles four voted against with one who was conspicuously missing during the voting suddenly appearing after the process had ended claiming that he had a flat tyre.
But the Greater Accra Regional Director of the Electoral Commission, Mr. Kwame Amoah will have none of that and declared the results.
Though the nominee has a second chance the party supporters have threatened to teach the assembly members a lesson if they fail to approve the nominee during the next voting which is expected within ten days.
