Department Of Children Organizes International Day of the Girl Child

The department carried out a sensitization and education programme on 11th October, 2022 to mark the International Day of the Girl Child. This day has been earmarked to be celebrated to echo the importance of the girl child, their rights and the need to priotize them. This year’s celebration was on the theme “Our time is now—our rights, our future”.

This year’s celebration was the 10th anniversary of the institution of the day in 2012. During the celebration of the International Day of the Girl Child, Girls were taken through nutrition and the type of food to be taken during menstruation. The boys were also taught to support their sisters in all things especially during menstruation.

The celebration has increased attention on issues that matter to girls amongst governments, policymakers and the general public, and more opportunities for girls to have their voices heard on the global stage. In all, one hundred and fifty-seven (157) people participated in the celebration. This was made up of sixty-six (66) boys and eighty-eight (88) girls.
