THE DEPARTMENT OF COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT VISITS THE ABLEKUMA NORTH MUNICIPAL ASSEMBLY

The Regional Office Team undertook Monitoring and Follow Up Visits to the Ablekuma North Municipal Assembly in the Region as part of their activities featured in the 2023 Action Plan.

The Regional Team and three staff of Ablekuma North visited Odorkor Tsui Maami Community in the Ablekumah North Municipal Assembly to embark on Home Visit exercise. The staff led the monitoring team to a household on a follow up visit, one household that the team visited had issues which was of great concern to the department.

The issue is about a seventeen 17year old boy who has dropped out of school due to poor performance at school. Due to this, the father took him to learn a trade as a mechanic, unfortunately the boy stopped learning the trade because he had a problem with the boss. The boy’s father has decided not take care of the son anymore since he has decided not to learn the trade. The mother is not able to control him because of the hot temper; this has led the boy to engage with bad friends who are into fraud.

The mother pleaded with the team to advice the son to be of good behavior and also to go back to learn the trade. The team had interaction with the boy, upon hearing from what the boy had to say, the team realized that the boy wants to go back to school and not to learn a trade. He said that he was performing poorly in academics because after school he had to go to the roadside to help the mum sell bread throughout the whole night, he comes home so tired and can’t focus on his books. He pleaded with the team to advice the mother to allow him to leave the roadside early in order to be able to have some time to rest and study.
