First Batch of City Response Team Passes Out.

The first batch for the city response team under the ‘operation clean your frontage’ campaign passed out with a total of 867 recruits on Tuesday, April 26,2022 at the parade ground of the Fifth Infantry Battalion (5BN) at Burma camp.

The team would assist the 29 Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies (MMDAs) and Security Agencies in the coming month in the Greater Accra Region. The team would enforce the campaign bye laws and sensitize and educate Ghanaians on good sanitation practices and good waste management practices.

The Regional Minister Hon. Henry Quartey explained, the motive for this initiative is to bring back the ‘saman saman’ concept of old where, citizens were responsible for cleaning their immediate environment and the mere hearing of ‘papa town council’ would send our mothers running hurriedly in order not to incur the wrath of the local Authorities.He expressed, with high standards of the Army Forces who trained the recruits, he hope they will be able to deliver on their mandate.

Mr Ambrose Dery, Minister of the Interior, who represented President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, commended the Greater Accra Regional Coordinating Council under the able leadership of Honorable Henry Quartey for this initiative. He said the Let’s Make Accra Work campaign was a transformational agenda” in response to President Akufo-Addo’s vision of making Accra the cleanest city in Africa.

Personalities at the event included the Minister of the Interior, Ambrose Dery, represented the President; the Greater Accra Regional Minister, Henry Quartey; the General Officer Commanding the Southern Command, Brigadier General Michael Amoah-Ayisi;
ministers of state, chief executives of MMDAs and members of the Parliamentary Select Committees on Defence and the Interior, Environment, Science and Technology and Local Government Rural Development and Works and Housing.

Others were representatives of the security agencies, a large entourage of traditional rulers from the various traditional councils in the Greater Accra Region, as well as the Executive Chairman of the Jospong Group of Companies, Dr Joseph Siaw Agyepong.

Ernestina Afriyie, Florence Jean, Caleb Mensah and Ransford Lartey were pronunced the Overall Best Student and Best Student in Bravo Company, Best Student in Challenge Company, and Best Student in Delta Company respectively.
