The Greater Accra Regional Director of health Dr. Charity Sarpong, has called for support towards the campaign “Operation Clean Your Frontage” to ensure a clean environment aimed at reducing Malaria to the barest minimum.
She intimated that, the aim of the Greater Accra Regional Health Directorate in particular and the Ghana Health Service in general is to reduce the spread of malaria and its related effects on humans.
Speaking at the 2022 Mid-year review meeting of the directorate, she noted that the goal of the National Strategic Plan-2021-2025 is to protect at least 80% of the population with effective malaria prevention interventions.
Considering the above the Regional Malaria Control Unit with support from the National Malaria Control Programme ((NMCP) and partners have carried out some activities in the quest to reduce malaria transmission the half year 2022 which includes sensitization programmes, distribution of mosquito sleeping nets among others.
Accordingly, she stated that the goal of the Greater Accra Regional Health Directorate and the Ghana Health Service is to reduce malaria disease burden and mortality to the barest minimum so that it is no longer of a public health significance.
Outlining its objectives, she enumerated the following
- To reduce Malaria Cases by 4%
- To increase testing rate to 100%
- To reduce Under 5 years Case Fatality Rate( CFR) to 0
- To provide 98% of both Ante Natal Care(ANC) Registrants and children due for Measles/Rubella 2 with Long Lasting Insecticide Treated Nets(LLIINs)
- To reduce percentage of Malaria cases not tested but treated by 3%
- To reduce Malaria In Pregnancy by 10%
- To increase IPT3 coverage to 60%
- To improve data quality
According to her the region is poised at ensuring that the outlined objectives materializes.
