The Greater Accra Regional Coordinating Council led by its Minister, Hon. Henry Quartey has led a team of “Operation Clean Your Frontage” task force and some workers from Zoomlion Ghana Limited to decongest parts of Accra, specifically within the Central Business District.
As part of the exercise, abandoned trucks and cars occupying parts of most principal streets in Accra in areas especially around the Circle-Avenor and Kaneshie driveway causing vehicular traffic were towed in addition to the collection of heaps of rubbish which had been kept on the streets.
Zoomlion company Limited supported the exercise with technical assistance, equipment and men.
The Regional Minister used the opportunity to again, advice traders to stay off the streets and pavements for their own safety. Noting that in an event where vehicles fail to apply brakes, lives and properties would be lost and caution them to always maintain the markets and its immediate surroundings by keeping it clean.
In addressing the taskforce, the Coordinator of the Accra City Response Team, Col. Kofi Amissah Mensah(RTD) stressed that enough sensitization programs had been carried out and his team is ever prepared to assist in the enforcement of the by-laws.
He therefore called for cooperation by the citizenry to ensure that the city becomes clean as his team is in collaboration with the Police Service to cause the arrest of culprits for misconduct.
