An inspection tour was carried out by the Greater Accra Regional Minister, Hon. Ishmael Ashitey together with the Sanitation Minister, Mrs. Cecilia Abena Dapaah on the Landfill site at Kpone Katamanso municipality. The tour was to inspect the progress in the transformation of the landfill sites into recreational centre.
The Sanitation Minister, Hon Cecilia Dapaah who led the tour, revealed that the Government had contracted waste management giants, Zoomlion Ghana Limited, through a contractor, Waste Landfills, two home-grown companies, to turn the two landfills into multi-purpose recreational facility. According to Mrs. Dapaah, the recreational centre would have sporting facilities to help unearth sporting talents in the municipality.
She also added that, when completed, the foul and repugnant smell with its attendants health hazards associated with the landfill site would be over. She disclosed further that the components of the project had already started, and the project is expected to be completed between six and eight months. She finally disclosed that the project was one of the ways the government is undertaking to contain the spread of the Covid-19 pandemic.
At a stakeholder’s engagement with the people of Kpone Katamanso municipality, the Hon. Minister, Ishmael Ashitey gave the assurance that he would make it a priority to ensure that the project is timely executed. He therefore called on the support of all to assist the assembly and the contractors in making this a reality.
