The Department of Social Welfare is to take the lead in integrating the disadvantaged, vulnerable and the excluded into the mainstream development. Aging has a significant impact on society. People with different ages and gender tend to differ in many aspects such as legal and social responsibilities, outlooks on life and self-perception.
The Ghana Statistical service reveals that the elderly population (60 years and older) has increased almost 10 times in the past six decades. It is known that the incidence of disease and disability increase with advancement in age, it is therefore clear that the increasing numbers and proportion of older person will mean that more special facilities and services in health, housing and social services will be required to meet their specific needs most of which are usually expensive to obtain and maintain. However, as community care seek to promote services for the disadvantaged and excluded individuals to which the aged is not with exception, a stakeholder meeting was organized to raise awareness, impact knowledge and foster collective commitment among organizations dealing with the older persons to create a safe and supportive environment for the older persons within their homes and the shelters, some institution that came for the engagement are Ansmed Home Limited,Ark Lifestyle, LoungeBenval Nursing,Comfort for the Aged,Imperial nursing and Home Care Service,Nanny Ghana Service,Royal Olive Court and Tabitha Ghana
