On Tuesday 1st February 2022, the “Operation Clean Your Frontage” Bye-Law came into force assured by the Greater Accra Regional Minister – Hon. Henry Quartey, with a massive sensitisation campaign.
The city-wide campaign commenced from the Black Star Square with an address by the Regional Minister to about 10,000 National Service Personnel, 2,000 men and women drawn from the Security services, workers from Youth Employment Agency (YEA), Metropolitan & Municipal Chief Executives, Taskforce operatives from 13 Metropolitan & Municipal Assemblies, and other patriotic citizens who shared in the ‘Operation Clean Your Frontage’ vision.
Hon. Henry Quartey also mentioned that the Greater Accra Regional Coordinating Council, with clearance from the Finance Ministry, has commenced the process for training over 3,500 personnel as a “City Response Team” to be deployed to the various Assemblies to enforce the ‘Operation Clean Your Frontage’ Bye-Law and ensure the sustainability of the program.
Addressing the media, the Minister appealed to residents and businesses to clean their frontage and maintain a clean environment at all times. This he said, is the sure way of making Accra the cleanest city in Africa and also a destination for tourism.
In the closing parade at the Black Star Square, the lawmaker for the Ayawaso Central Constituency – Hon. Henry Quartey expressed his appreciation to the over 15,000 men and women who participated in the sensitisation exercise, with a special mention to the heads of the various Security Services and Agencies.
He rendered a special appreciation to the Executive Chairman of the JOSPONG Group of Companies – calling him “the Chief Borlaman” for their tremendous collaboration, participation and logistical support to the Campaign and their partnership with the Regional Coordinating Council in the Operation Clean Your Frontage program.
He also thanked the CEO of the National Service Scheme for their tremendous collaboration and the CEO of the Coastal Development Authority for their involvement.
In his closing remarks, he stated that the public education and sensitisation will continue for the next ten days but will be spearheaded by the various Assemblies within their jurisdiction.
Henry Quartey appeals to Clergy & corporate Ghana to support ‘operation clean your frontage’ campaign.
The Greater Accra Regional Minister, Hon. Henry Quartey on Thursday 2 7th January, 2022 called on the clergy and corporate Ghana to support and participate in the ‘operation clean your frontage’ campaign at Movenpick Ambassador Hotel in Accra
The minister explained that, the clergy has massive following and their active participation would give prominence to the campaign and drive the interest of the members to also participate.
Hon. Henry Quartey commented that, the Greater Accra Regional Co-ordinating Council would embark on an extensive awareness and sensitization float which would kick-start on 1st February, 2022.
‘We need the clergy if this programme will be a success. Our people respect and follow the guidelines you provide them in summons’. The minister said.
According to the minister, about 30,000 personnels would be deployed to partake in the sensitization exercise. These personnels would assemble at the independence square at 5:00am in the morning on that day and move to areas like Makola, CBD, Lapaz, Osu,first light, Abossey Okai, Kwame Nkrumah Interchange, among others.
The minister hinted that, MMDA’s in the region have been tasked to establish waste transfer sites to enable collection and disposal of waste in the communities. He also, indicated that about 1,400 taskforce personnels have been recruited and are undergoing training.
Methodist Bishop of Accra, Reverend Emmanuel Borlarbi Bortey, Rev. Cyril Fayose General Secretary of the Christian Council of Ghana, Rev. Andrew Odonkor, District Minister of Accra Central District Presbyterian church, Rev. Emmanuel Barrigah, General Secretary of GPCC, the Catholic Bishop of Accra were among the clergy that graced the event.
In a separate meeting with CEOs and Managing Directors of corporate Ghana, Hon. Henry Quartey also appealed to them to also support the agenda of ” making Greater Accra Work” hence by keeping their environment and surroundings clean.
Again he stated that the Regional Coordinating Council Would welcome any institution that adopts any of the major roundabouts in Accra for greening and beautification purposes.
