Regional Minister Orders Closure of Beaches Ahead of Easter

The Greater Accra Regional Minister, Hon. Henry Quartey, has ordered the closure of all beaches during this year’s Easter celebration. The Minister explained that such directive was to ensure sustained strict adherence to the directives as issued by the President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo on the safety protocols of the COVID-19.

In a statement issued by the Minister, he also urged the MMDAs to collaborate effectively with the various security apparatus of the country, including the Ministry of the Interior and the Ghana Police Service to implement the directives.

Particularly, the Minister and Regional Security Council Chairman directed that, all MMDAs were to collaborate with their respective Police Commanders and other security apparatus to ensure that all beaches from Ada to the coastal boundary with the Central Region remain closed until further notice.

The directive also included constant engagement with operators of beach resorts to facilitate adherence to this directive, while ensuring heavy security presence to enforce compliance at all times.

Furthermore, all other public places have been asked to make sure that they provide hand washing facilities, and employ all other safety protocols, and tasked MMDAs to ensure that violators of these instructions were arrested, fined or prosecuted to serve as deterrent to others.
