As the mission of the Department of Urban Roads is to provide a cost effective and sustainable integrated roads transport system to ensure accessibility, safety, and reliability for national development.
The New Gbawe roads were rehabilitated to ensure that travel time reduced, road safety is improved, and flooding is mitigated, which would invariably improve the quality of life of residents and road users. The roads under this project for rehabilitation have varying degrees of distresses. While the engineered roads are riddled with numerous potholes and inadequate drainage structures, the un-engineered roads have huge gullies, corrugations, no drainage systems. This has resulted in an increased travel time to vehicular users, vehicular discomfort, health and safety hazards to residents, reduced network capacity of the road and negatively affected the overall quality of life of residents. Consequently, a detailed assessment of the roads was carried out and it was recommended for the road to be rehabilitated to include the construction of critical drainage structures, earthworks, and pavement works.
