The Regional Department of Agriculture has organised a capacity building training programme for staff and farmers based on training needs received from the various Metropolitan Municipal and District Assemblies.
The objective was to build the capacity of staff to improve their service delivery standards and to also enhance the expertise of farmers and processors on yield and production of livestock.
A total of 11 training programmes representing 78.6% of the number of trainings activities planned has been achieved. A total of 162 staff (103 males and 59 females) and 203 farmers and processors (127 males and 76 females) have been trained on various topics by the Regional Subject Matter Specialist.
Some of the training topics included; Training on Good agricultural practices in irrigation farming to sustain the gains of planting for food and jobs programme,
building the capacity of Women In Agric, development (WIAD) Officers in appropriate food combinations to improve family nutrition through demonstration.
Others included training workshop to build the capacity of WIAD Officers to promote food safety along the agricultural value chain, validation workshop to validate Crop production figures and presentation of DCACT activities, and training workshop for livestock officers and RFJ beneficiaries on Pig production.
The Regional Director of the department of Agric, Mr. Eric Asomaning, indicated that the region is prepared to ensure that the production of food, livestock and other produce increases.
