The Ga East Municipal Assembly has launched the “24-Hour Clean Ga East” initiative to improve sanitation, strengthen environmental cleanliness, and support the government’s decentralised approach to waste management and street cleaning.
Speaking at the launch on Wednesday, March 25, 2026, at the forecourt of the Assembly, the Municipal Chief Executive, Hon. Edmund Agboh, said the initiative would institutionalise round-the-clock cleaning of principal streets and public spaces, strengthen enforcement through a sanitation task force, operationalise sanitation courts, intensify public education, and improve waste management infrastructure.
He announced that the Assembly had recruited 100 sweepers and sanitary labourers to drive the progmme and had also procured a pickup vehicle, five motorbikes, 200 waste bins, and other sanitation tools to support implementation. He added that the Assembly had partnered Witties Energy Ltd to establish a mini waste transfer site for informal waste collectors.
The Greater Accra Regional Minister, Hon. Linda Obenewaa Akweley Ocloo, who officially launched the programme, commended the initiative and described it as timely and in line with the government’s 24-hour economy policy. She urged residents, traders, institutions, and community leaders to support the programme, stressing that cleanliness is a shared responsibility.
