FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
The Greater Accra Regional Co-ordinating council is deeply concern about flooding that has occurred in several parts of the region following today’s heavy rains. My heart goes out to all individuals and families who have been affected by this unfortunate incident. I sincerely sympathize with those who have suffered losses, displacement and other hardships, and I want to assure every affected resident that you are not alone. We stand with you during this difficult period. The safety and well-being of every resident remain my highest priority. I have therefore directed all Metropolitan, Municipal and District Chief Executives (MMDCEs) to immediately move into their communities with their emergency response teams, NADMO officers and all relevant technical officers to intensify rescue operations, evacuate persons trapped by floodwater where necessary, assess the situation on the ground and provide immediate relief to affected residents. Every MMDCE is expected to remain fully engaged until the situation is brought under control. This is a time for decisive leadership and swift action. The Greater Accra Regional Coordinating Council is working closely with the National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO), the Ghana National Fire Service, the Ghana Police Service and all other emergency response agencies to coordinate response efforts and ensure that lives and property are protected. The Ghana Meteorological Agency has indicated that more rainfall is expected. I therefore urge all residents to exercise extreme caution and avoid unnecessary movement. Where possible, remain indoors and keep away from flood-prone areas, drains and fast-flowing floodwaters. I particularly appeal to parents and guardians to ensure that their families, especially children, are kept safe at all times. No one should allow children to play in floodwater or attempt to cross flooded roads and drains. Residents requiring emergency assistance should immediately contact NADMO through the following channels: Emergency Lines: 0302 772395 / 0299 344030 WhatsApp: 055 160 9393 I further appeal to all residents to cooperate fully with emergency response personnel and comply with all safety directives issued by the authorities. To everyone affected by this disaster, I assure you that I stand with you. Together with our Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies and our emergency response agencies, we will continue to work tirelessly to protect lives and assist those in need and support our communities through this challenging period. May God continue to protect the Greater Accra Region and keep us all safe. HON. LINDA OBENEWAA AKWELEY OCLOO (MP) GREATER ACCRA REGIONAL MINISTER
