The Community Development monitoring Team visited Kpone Presbyterian Basic School and engaged students on key adolescent issues. The session covered responsible use of social media, encouraging students to use digital platforms for research rather than for inappropriate content. Students were also advised to remain focused on their education and not allow poverty or peer pressure to derail their future. In addition, the team addressed the topics of rape and defilement, explaining the differences and guiding students to take precautions such as not walking alone when sent on errands and dressing decently. They were urged to report any incident of sexual abuse to their parents or the appropriate authorities to prevent trauma and ensure protection.
Also, in Kpone Katamanso, a session on Parenting (Maize Plant) was held to commemorate the World Day Against Child Labour. The discussion emphasized the vital role of parental guidance, using the maize plant as a symbol to illustrate that just as crops require watering and weeding to thrive, children also need consistent care, attention, and discipline to grow into responsible adults. Parents were reminded that neglect can result in negative outcomes such as child labour, drug abuse, or wayward behavior. They were further advised to closely monitor their children’s phone use, as some may misuse them to access inappropriate online content under the guise of academic work.
