On the 8th December, 2025, the Department of community Development engaged JHS 1, 2 and 3 students at the JHS 1 classroom. The topic was Adolescents’ Online Protection.
The activity began by making the students aware of the need for them to spend time online and social media and teach them how to put measures in place to protect themselves online. The students were thought how to safeguard themselves from strangers who are plotting to harm or hurt them. As much as these media can be used to access information for studies, there are also very dangerous, harmful and un-useful information all over the internet. This is why it is very important to teach them to really think about the sites they visit, the information they share on the various social media platforms and who they share their personal information with on these platforms. The presentation ended with the SMART tips on online safety. The purpose of this activity is to identify the risks and opportunities associated with use of ICT tools and the internet and to ensure adolescent girls and boys put in place measures to stay safe when they use the internet and social media.
