CHOLERA OUTBREAK IN ADA WEST DISTRICT

The Environmental Health Department held an emergency meeting with Ada West District. The meeting commenced with opening remarks and self-introductions. The District Budget Officer provided a briefing on the Assembly’s efforts to raise awareness and secure support from companies in the district. The District Finance Officer also noted that the first case was reported weeks earlier following an individual’s visit to Ada East. Since then, communal labor and public announcements have been employed to curb the outbreak. The District also organized Communal labor in all communities to clean public spaces. Operation Clean Your Frontage vehicles deployed to collect refuse and also prohibition of food sharing at funerals and social distancing measures implemented. They distributed Hand sanitizers and Veronica buckets provided in public spaces.

The team was leader, Mr. Kweku Quansah, commended the district for its efforts and discussed the possibility of using cholera vaccines as a long-term solution. He also emphasized the need for public health education, especially in schools, and indicated that additional support, including poly tanks, will be provided.
