The president’s nominee for the position of Municipal Chief Executive for the La Dadekotopon Municipal Assembly has been rejected by assembly members at an election conducted by the electoral commission at the forecourt of their office. Despite appeals from both the Greater Accra Regional Minister Hon. Ocloo and member of Parliament for the area who doubles as the deputy minister at the Ministry of Local Government, Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs, to confirm the nominee, the assembly members failed to endorse him.
At the end of polls, the President’s nominee Alfredos Nii Anyetei, secured only 5 ‘Yes’ out of the 14 assembly members with the majority 9 voting ‘No’. With this results it was clear, the nominee failed to garner the two thirds majority required by law to be MCE and again failed to secure 50 percent of the valid votes cast to reappear within 10 days for consideration by the assembly members hence the rejection.
Hon. Linda Ocloo expressed her disappointment in the assembly members for failing to approve the President’s nominee, a decision which would disrupt the smooth governance of the Municipality.
