The Greater Accra Regional Minister, Hon. Linda Akweley Ocloo has sworn into office Hon. Felix Odartey Lamptey as Municipal Chief Executive of the Weija-Gbawe Municpal Assembly, after an earlier rejection by the Assembly Members. In an earlier election, the President’s nominee failed to secure both the two thirds majority of members present and voting and a fifty percent vote which would have given him the opportunity again withing 10 days. At the end of the first voting, out of the 20 Assembly members present, 9 voted ‘Yes’ while the remaining 11 voted ‘No’, a clear indication of rejection.
However, after an hour of the rejection, he was renominated for the same position in a statement issue by the Ministry of Local Government, Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs. Subsequently, another election was conducted by the electoral commission where he pulled a ‘Yes’ votes of 17 with 3 ‘No’ representing 85 percent of the valid votes cast.
Hon. Ocloo in her statement appealed to assembly members to eschew individual interest but pursue the national agenda of development adding that government appointees who failed to approve the President’s nominee for which they were appointed would face revocation.
Hon. Lamptey in his acceptance speech called for unity so together all stakeholders can work tirelessly to reset Weija-Gbawe.
