Rice Farmers trained on Good Agricultural Practices (GAPs) in rice farming for increased income level

The Regional Agric. Office Facilitated the training of Rice Farmers in the Dawenya Irrigation Scheme in the Ningo Prampram District on Good Agricultural Practices (GAPs) in rice production.

One of the Good Agricultural Practices (GAPs) taught was the use of net in controlling birds on the fields. Cost of scaring of birds is one of the challenges farmers face in rice production. Birds feed on the matured grains which leads to post-harvest losses hence reducing farmers income and profit margins. Training and Field Demonstration was done to build capacity of farmers to control birds with the use of nets. This is expected to increase income levels of rice farmers through increased yields.
