GARCC Holds Orientation workshop on Revised Spatial Planning Guidelines

The Greater Accra Regional Coordinating Council (GARCC) has organised an orientation workshop on the revised Zoning Guidelines and Planning Standards, as well as the Manual for the Preparation of Spatial Plans, to strengthen spatial planning and human settlement management in the region.

Hon.Linda Obenewaa Ocloo,Greater Accra Regional Minister said the programme was aimed at deepening the understanding of key stakeholders on the revised frameworks that guide spatial planning and the management of human settlements across the region and its districts.

The Minister noted that the revised documents were developed by the Land Use and Spatial Planning Authority (LUSPA) in collaboration with GIZ to align with the Land Use and Spatial Planning Act, 2016 (Act 925), the Local Governance Act, 2016 (Act 936), and the Land Use and Spatial Planning Regulations, 2019 (L.I. 2384).

According to the Minister, the updated guidelines and manual, which were launched in November 2025, reflect current trends in land use, physical development and the sustainable management of human settlements. The documents also provide clear directions for the preparation, implementation and monitoring of spatial plans at the national, regional and district levels.

The Minister described the orientation workshop as timely, stressing that it would enhance the capacity of regional stakeholders responsible for spatial planning and development management. He added that the initiative would help ensure that development interventions are coordinated, sustainable and responsive to the changing needs of communities.

Participants were encouraged to actively engage in discussions and seek clarification where necessary to improve the effectiveness of spatial planning and development management within their respective jurisdictions.

The Minister also expressed appreciation to GIZ for its continued technical and financial support and commended LUSPA and other partners for their contributions to the successful revision of the planning documents.

The workshop brought together members of the Regional Spatial Planning Committee, heads of Ministries, Departments and Agencies, representatives of LUSPA, GIZ and other stakeholders involved in land use and spatial planning.
