MALE ENGAGEMENT TO ADVANCE GENDER EQUALITY AND SEXUAL REPRODUCTIVE HEALTH AND RIGHTS.

The Department of Gender organised a 1- day male engagement on Gender Equality, Sexual Reproductive Health and Rights at Amamomo in the Accra Metropolitan Assembly on 28th September ,2023.

The purpose of the activity was to raise awareness and encourage men at all levels to take action against gender inequality.Participants consisted of Okada Riders, Unit Committee Members, Staff of the Assembly, adolescent boys Moslem and Christian youth groups. Also in attendance were representatives from the Ministry of Gender, the RCC, and the Narcotics Control Commission, between the ages of 15 to 60 years. In all a total of One Hundred and Eleven (111) participants were engaged. Out of which 7 were females and 94 were males. The program focused specifically, on the role and importance of men and boys in advancing gender equality, causes and prevention of erectile dysfunction.It also provided a platform to educate the men and boys on the harmful effects of substance and drug abuse.After the engagement the participant were able to learn on how safe spaces should be created for men to report cases of abuse, child marriage is a criminal offence thus all community members need to be watchdogs and report such cases, men should express their emotions to their wives, etc. to reduce anxiety, the Children in any given community are the responsibility of all because when they engage in social vices it affects all, men encouraged to seek early medical treatment for erectile dysfunction, HBP medication does not cause erectile dysfunction, and a major cause of erectile dysfunction is drugs and substance abuse.

They were also thought on how they should be more supportive to their partners at home. Women should be involved in making decisions especially decisions regarding their health, since it is about making decisions and choices which will affect them in life, And the need for parents to listen to their children and also look out for the boy-child just like they do for their girl child.
